Probable change in NEET PG pattern – discuss Dr. Tushar Mehta

Recently we received a NEWS from IANS that NBE has broken ties with Prometric, a US based exam conducting agency for NEET PG 2017. This is mostly due to the hacking scam surfaced in last year’s NEET PG exam where Prometric admitted to CBI that there may be a chance that their systems can be hacked. Whatever the reason may be, there is sudden increase in anxiety among doctors preparing for this years NEET PG due to this change.

Even though it’s still very early to predict what is in bag for NEET PG 2017, we approached Dr. Tushar Mehta, MBBS, DNB (Ortho.) to ask a few early questions related to this change, which he graciously accepted to answer.

Dr. Tushar Mehta need no introduction among PG entrance preparing medicos. He is one of the most popular faculty (of Orthopaedics) and mentor at DAMS, a premier coaching center for PG entrance exams. He has conducted numerous orientation sessions at various prestigious Medical institutes and guided thousands of doctors about how to approach new pattern NEET PG exam. He can be reached at http://drtusharmehta.com or http://fb.com/tusharmehta.dr

Q. Sir, there is a recent NEWS that Prometric will not be conducting NEET PG exam in 2017, which caused quite excitement among doctors. What is your first advice for preparing students?

A. At the outset, I would like to welcome this change provided we get official information from the NBE. Considering the glitches that happened last year, it’s going to benefit our students most likely.

Having said that, I would like to convey to all PG aspirants across the country to keep preparing with same zeal and focus. The study pattern is not going to be affected by this. The subjects, topics and the question pattern will be almost similar.

Therefore without distraction , one must be persevering to succeed in the exams.

Q. Is it possible that NBE will consider a single day single window exam from 2017 as indicated by the NEWS in business-standard.com, and like AIIMS PG and how will it affect preparation of NEET PG 2017?

A. I do think Single Day Single Exam will be considered since it’s easy for the conducting body as well.

As I said earlier , the cohort giving the exam will remain the same, which means that whatever changes will be there in the exam pattern, it will be same for all the students and therefore it shouldn’t affect the preparation strategy.

Q. Will Psychometric analysis play role in single day exam?

A. If we see around the country all major exams are being conducted with the same pattern of scaling and equating, that’s the raw score calculated and then put across the software to final figures. I do think the new body will consider to utilise the same scoring system. So it is advised that practicing tests with keeping psychometric analysis should be the strategy now.

Q. What change in strategy of study, you think students should do to prepare for this change?

A. Just avoid distractions and focus on quick completion of syllabus so that adequate revisions can be done.

Any change of this sort doesn’t bring much requirement in the change of study pattern as I already said. The change happens for all the students at a same time, and its the grip on subjects which will matter in the end and not the pattern.

We, at DAMS , have always been adaptive to change and if anything uncalled for comes to the front , we will be the first change to instruct the directives for the change.

Work hard , dream Big. Even Sky is not the limit.

Best wishes to all PG Aspirants.

~ Dr. Tushar Mehta
